From July 23, 2003 to August 11, 2003 I was lucky enough to have a chance to document the stages of common nighthawk nesting from the eggs phase - hatching phase - to the 14 day of the one surviving chick (the second one died during or shortly after hatching) in the south part of Houston, Texas. During that time I took over three thousand photographs to document the growing process of the chick. I also took some interesting photographs of female behavior on the nest. Most of the photographs are close ups taken from a few feet away.

It seems that because of difficulties in accessing nesting sites, very little information is available. It is very hard to find photos of the hatchlings or even young chicks.

Now, I am in the stage of gathering all the information I can find about nesting behavior of the common nighthawks to finish an article summarizing all my observations. I am going to post my article on this site. If someone is interested in this subject please check here in the future.
